Can I have a LinkedIn profile photo captured with a London background?

We are often asked whether I can have a LinkedIn profile photo captured with a London background. Yes is the answer, but there are a few options to take into account.

The first is to be very careful which London location you choose. For instance, many clients want a view of St Paul’s as their background. This is fine, but the area around St Pauls is very busy, and this causes problems. If you have hired a professional corporate headshot photographer to capture your LinkedIn profile photo, they will be using a long portrait lens. When using these lenses, there will be at least a 10ft gap between you and the photographer. This means people will keep walking in front of the camera and ruining your LinkedIn profile photo commission. If St Paul’ is your choice of location, we do have a few tricks to make sure you get a decent London location headshot. We take clients onto the Millennium Bridge and ask them to stand close to the bridge barrier. We also position ourselves against this barrier, and this makes it difficult for people to get in the way.

Another sample is many clients who want a view of The City as their background and ask us to meet them by The Monument or at Bank. This does not work but for different reasons. If you are in The City, you are not in the right area to get a clear view of the famous cityscape. We ask clients to meet us over at More London on the south side of the River Thames. This area is less busy than The City, and you have a clear view across the river of all the instantly recognisable office skyscrapers. Also, at More London, if you walk in an eastwards direction, you get a good view of Tower Bridge which is very popular as a background for any foreign business people wanting to show on their LinkedIn profile page that they are working in London.

So the next time a corporate headshot photographer is asked, can I have a LinkedIn profile photo captured with a London background? They can explain all the options and where to avoid in a busy London!

So you are going to commission a professional LinkedIn profile photo with a cityscape of London as a background. We have some suggestions on different locations to signify that you are London based.

London’s St Paul’s

One of the most recognisable London buildings is St Pauls. Known the world over as a London landmark. Many of our clients ask for this cityscape in the background to show clients and potential employers that they are London based on their LinkedIn profile page. Some clients ask for a subtle London backdrop with the well-known building out of focus but still recognisable.

For other clients they want the London landmark building to be clearly shown within their LinkedIn profile photo.

Both the above LinkedIn profile photos feature St Pauls, but they were captured in different locations. In the first profile photo, we met the businesswoman on the millennium bridge as this location is free from cars and other building obscuring the view of St Pauls. The reason this is an excellent public view is due to the St Paul’s Heights which is to protect and enhance important local views of the Cathedral from the South Bank, Thames bridges and certain points to the north, west and east. The second LinkedIn profile photo was captured in a public viewing area on top of an office building which has public access to the roof.

London’s Big Ben

The next location for your profile photo is on the Southbank with a view of Big Ben. This is a world-known London location and many people who visit London will go home with a photo of the tower. What is not known to many is that the actual bell is named Big Ben and the tower is called the Elizabeth Tower.

The Southbank & Westminster Bridge

If you want a subtle Linked profile photo showing London as your City we have a little area we use quite often along the Southbank as you approach Westminster Bridge. Distinct and ornate streetlights. These feature fish and have a distinct maritime quality which associates the Linkdedin profile photo with the River Thames.
